Accommodation

We are based at the Simony hut, right below the Hallstätter glacier. The hut has recently been modernised and is now fully equipped with warm showers on the first floor and Internet access.

Itinerary

Day 1

Salzburg-Turlwand-Simony Hut
From Salzburg we travel for 1.5 hours to the southside of the Dachstien and take a cable car up to the Hallstätter glacier. Our training starts right here becuase we have to rope up and start the descent to Simony Hut via the Hallstätter glacier. The hut is located on the toe of the glacier and is about 1.5 hours of walking from the cable car drop off point. You will receive your briefing for the week on the way down to the hut.

Day 2

Rock training
We learn rock climbing and belaying techniques, from top roping to "rope gunning". This also includes how to use belaying devices and correct communication between climbing partners, etc.

Day 3

Snow and ice training
Do you know how to stop on a steep snow field if you fall? That is what you will learn today, as well as much more such as walking safely with crampons on and belaying on ice, etc.

Day 4

Tour up to the Dachstein, 2995m
You will be in command on this tour up to the summit of the Dachstein. You will lead the group up the glacier and learn about how to be the leader of a group - an important skill in mountaineering. We take it in turns, so everybody has the chance to go first and lead the others.

Day 5

Via Ferrata training
A Via Ferrata route is on our schedule today. We have many to choose from in the local area and it will be a beautiful experience to climb up the steep mountain faces around the hut.

Day 6

We pack our things and head off to the cable car station again. We will arrive back in Salzburg in the late afternoon. Stay overnight in a bed and breakfast.

Day 7

After breakfast depart for the airport and fly back to the UK.
