Deep in an almost magical clearing in the Julian Alps lies the pretty and still largely untouched resort of Pristava Lepena. Overlooking the aquamarine Soča River, (officially one of Europe’s 4 cleanest rivers) and located within the Triglav National Park, the location is extremely tranquil but it hides the potential for a multitude of outdoor activities for adults and children of all ages. Owned by Milan and Silvia this small settlement in the Trenta Valley is ideal for escaping from the modern world and getting back in touch with the natural environment.

The Valley may be in the mountains but it has a pleasant climate owing to the warm winds blowing up from the Adriatic and Mediterranean Seas. The air is fresh, however, and it still has a distinctly alpine feel, surrounded by majestic limestone crags, lush green meadows and spectacular woodland scenery.

In 2009, the Soča Valley received the European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) award: proof of its outstanding beauty. Filled with ravines and canyons and endless places to explore, the area has much of its own unique flora and fauna. This is a place that will make you fall in love with Slovenia.

The hotel is extremely safe for children there is a natural children’s playground made entirely out of wood, a picnic area and a small outdoor swimming pool. On site there is tennis and table tennis, archery and bikes to keep them entertained. There are also Welsh ponies to ride and pet goats to pat, which children will love. They are more than welcome in the hotel restaurant during the evening and babysitting can be arranged if required. The rooms are ideal for families with extra twin rooms and pull out beds. Children under 2 years of age stay for free and there are discounts for older children.

Activity Information

Activities include Trail Riding on purebred Lipizzaner horses, Archery, Mountain Biking, Hiking & Tennis.

Optional aditional activities: Horse Riding Lessons, Rafting, Kayaking, Canyoning, Hydrospeed, Paragliding, Skydiving, Fly-fishing, Golf.

Trail Riding on Lipizzaners
If you’re an experienced rider what better way to explore this beautiful and rugged terrain than on classic pure Lipizzaner horses which are bred on the hotel’s farm. Follow the dozens of trails along the Soča River, through the silent alpine woods or up the grassy slopes of this awesome landscape.

Horse Riding Lessons
For the less experienced there is a professional riding school with stables and a riding ring where you can meet the horses, learn how to fit a saddle correctly and be taught the basics of horse riding. These calm natured horses are very easy to manage and young children will love our friendly ponies and pet goats.

White Water Rafting
Arranged locally in Bovec by professional companies, this is an affordable but utterly thrilling way to venture down this spectacular river which is guaranteed to flow right into your memory and stay there forever.

Kayaking
One of the most pleasing ways to explore a river, kayaking is a fun sport which is accessible to anyone, experienced or novice. You will receive tuition if necessary and then be given the freedom to follow the water course best suited to your abilities so you can choose how wet you want to get!

Canyoning
An exciting way to get closer to nature’s powerful forces is to slip, slide, jump and shimmy down gorges, waterfalls and canyons which have been carved out of rock formations by the flow of water. With sites ranging from easy to difficult (where climbing ropes are needed) this is a thrilling way to uncover water’s magnificent architecture.

Hydrospeed
If you fancy connecting directly with the river itself try hydrospeed (also known as riverboarding) for an intense rollercoaster ride of an experience. With the hydrospeed float to rest on and using flippers to help you swim, you will navigate an exciting stretch of rapids in the stunning Soča River.

Paragliding
Join the eagles and buzzards as you marvel at the spectacular aerial views of the Julian Alps and soar in silence through the clear blue skies either in tandem or solo if you’re experienced.

Archery
Are you a budding Robin Hood or maybe even Cupid? Pick up your bow and take aim at our targets. After some time to practise, tournaments are held at the hotel.

Mountain Biking
There are a number of bikes available for free at the hotel or more can be hired nearby.

Hiking
Use the many paths that meander through the Soča Valley, taking you up and over, down and along routes that pass by secret waterfalls or lead to crystal clear, mountain top lakes. There are also some via ferrata mountain walking routes close by.

Fly-Fishing
Not only is the Soča River awesome to look at but it is also filled with wildlife and is home to the rare marbled trout thus offering up world-class fishing potential. Either hire tackle and waders or bring your own gear - permits are inexpensive and are easily arranged through the hotel.

Accommodation

Accommodation is at Pristava Lepena and is made up of different sized chalet apartments and rooms to cater for families, groups (sleeping 3-8 people) and couples. All are carefully arranged amongst huge boulders and tall pine trees to blend as much as possible into the surrounding scenery. They are built in charming Trenta-style architecture, largely made of wood and stone. All are spacious yet have a comfortable, homely feel incorporating all mod-cons (refrigerator, electric kettle, telephone, cable TV, wireless internet access, hair dryer and safe box).

Each chalet is centrally heated but most guests prefer the luxury of the wood-burning stove to make their room really cosy. Each also has its own private terrace with a view to relax on after a busy day of recreational activities, as well as a small kitchen and bathroom with shower.

The on-site restaurant serves Slovenian specialities with ingredients sourced locally and freshly prepared as well as a number of international dishes, especially Italian food. A hearty meal is served in the evenings (in summer outside on the terrace) ranging from risotto to goulash to roast meats. For breakfast there is a wide variety of choices; cereals, breads, pastries, cured meats, eggs, fruit and juices. The hotel also has 2 bars to choose from and a wellness centre (including a Finnish and infrared sauna, a fitness room and an outdoor whirlpool).

Bed and breakfast - £535.00 per adult
Half Board - add £140.00 per adult to bed and breakfast price
Full board - add £230.00 per adult to bed and breakfast price

Itinerary

Day 1

After being met directly at the airport you will be transferred to Pristava Lepena and welcomed by Milan and Silvia, the owners, who will get you settled into your room before rustling you up something fresh and delicious to eat whilst you relax on the terrace and soak up the view of sun setting over the high mountain peaks or sample the homemade spirits at one of the hotel bars.

Day 2

Spend a day with the wonderful Lipizzaner horses which are bred at Pristava Lepena. You can take horse riding lessons and learn how to groom before heading off on horseback to explore the spectacular local surroundings: river, meadow, forest and mountain. You will soon see why the Trenta Valley was chosen as the background setting for the 2008 Chronicles of Narnia film, Prince Caspian.

Day 3

Embrace the waters of the Soča River and try your hand at some guided white water rafting. If this sounds a little bit too exhilarating do not discount the river completely. It is very diverse and has rapids, deep pools, slow flowing areas and shallow sections too. Keep the older kids occupied with vigorous water sports whilst young children will be kept just as happy splashing around in the numerous rock pools and you can relax on the riverside white-sand beaches.

Day 4

Free day. Why not pre-book one of the many day trips organised at the hotel. You could visit the coast for a day of sunbathing, check out the famous karst caves at Postojna, swim or sail on Lake Bled, head to Bohinj (great for wine lovers), take a sightseeing tour or do some shopping around the city of Ljubljana.

Day 5

Spend another day by the fabulous Soča River in nearby Bovec where we use an experienced local company who will give us a guaranteed fun day to remember. Have a go at canyoning, a thrilling experience which makes the most of nature's own water slides!!

Day 6

Enjoy a spectacular early morning paraglide over the beautiful alpine landscape (bookable in Bovec) or for the fainter hearted, admire the fantastic views by taking a cable car up to the top of Kanin (2200m), the highest ski resort in Slovenia. Once you have got your breath back, cool off in the Soča by floating downriver on a hydrospeed. Hold on tight! When you make it back onto dry land, have a luxurious hour in the hotel sauna to relax any aching muscles and then sit out on the terrace in the hot tub with a glass of local wine and some hearty mountain food.

Day 7

Free day to explore whatever you fancy. There are tonnes of possible places to choose from: the well-presented World War One museum in Kobarid, the Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden, the fabulous Kozjak waterfalls or the formidable fortress at Kluže. In the afternoon head off up into the hills on mountain bikes or on foot and have a picnic sat amongst the wild flowers, then take part in an evening tennis or archery competition back at the hotel.

Day 8

After a goodbye breakfast and some time to have a final wander around the hotel village and the local trails you will be transferred back to the airport.
