A training weekend to test your fitness and skills and prepare you for an upcoming expedition, especially for those with limited mountain walking experience.

During the weekend you will travel over varied terrain and learn specific skills necessary for your trip such as use of trekking poles, setting a good pace, keeping together and moving over rough ground.
Each weekend will consist of a full day excursion in the mountains during which we will discuss many topics related to your challenge. You will walk 6-8 hours or more on varied terrain ascending one or more major peaks allowing our instructor to test your fitness/skills with regard to your pending challenge or trek.
These get-togethers provide a good opportunity for us to gauge your preparation and answer any questions so you will be fully prepared for the trip ahead.
The main elements which we will discuss are:
Clothing and Equipment
Looking at appropriate clothing for the challenge being undertaken and highlighting some key points. On the mountain top, it can be very cold, wet and windy at any time of year. You need to be prepared and be able to choose and use suitable clothing for whichever challenge you are undertaking.
The Mountain Walk
This is to prepare you for the physical effort and mental stamina needed on many of the challenges.
For the weekend you will require the usual outdoor clothing dependent on season which will include the following basic items plus changeover gear in case of adverse weather:
Kit and Equipment
- Walking boots
- Walking socks.
- Walking trousers or tracksuit bottoms - no jeans.
- Thin layers on top, thin fleeces or sweatshirts.
- Small day sack 25 to 35L size with shoulder straps and waist strap
- Waterproofs, top and bottoms.
- Warm fleece jacket, jumper or down jacket.
- Fleece hat and warm windproof gloves
- Lunch and drinks (will be provided)
- Water bottles x 2 litres minimum
- Head torch
- Money, extra snacks, treats and a camera.
- Any personal medication, inhalers etc.
- Sun cream and glasses – you never know.
- Trekking poles
