The Lake District was the birthplace of British rock climbing. Beginning in the summer of 1886 with the ascent of Napes Needle by Haskett Smith. The popularity of climbing has increased somewhat since then; the BMC stated 5 million wall users in 2005 and the number is rising. There has to be a reason why so many people are interested?

For those not already hooked, the feeling of topping out on your first climb, and indeed subsequent climbs, is hard to describe. Our base in the Lake District gives us the great advantage of being close to some of the UK's best rock climbing locations, from high mountain crags to low lying outcrops. Because of this it is a fantastic place to learn or improve your skills.

We offer a full range of courses, from taster sessions and starting to climb through to learning to lead, advanced ropework and improvised rescue techniques. All our courses are available with dates to suit you.

I had an excellent weekend. Chris Chilcott far exceeded my expectations. It's a big ask for a guide to get to know a climber in so short a time and tailor the climbing to push him and help him grow in the right direction. We spent the first day on Shepherd's Crag working on progressively more difficult climbs. In order we did Brown Slabs Direct - VD Brown Crag Wall - 4b VS- Ardus - 4b MVS Fisher's Folly - 4c VS By the end of the day Chris had successfully pushed my level, taught me a host of climbing and belaying skills, and showed me a great time. The second day was spent on a big mountain route on Raven Crag called Corvus - D. I was learning to lead climb so led 2 of the 7 pitches. It was excellent. I was definitely more nervous leading than seconding. The climb was sufficiently difficult to keep me interested but not so hard that I could not lead it. It was picked to perfection. It was a cold day on that north face, but was super fun. Overall I had a fantastic weekend. Definitely whetted my appetite for more weekends away in the Lakes.
